I’d like to give a warm welcome to Selby Town’s new signing, Chris Bilton! Chris was immediately thrown into action this week at Selby’s 3-1 defeat to Yorkshire Amateur, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of him with the congested fixture list to come. I spoke to Chris to find out a little bit more about him, and what brought him to the club….
How long have you been playing football?
“I’ve been playing football as long as I can remember, but my first recollection of competitive football was under 10’s.”
What teams have you played for in the past?
“I’ve played for three local teams, York City FC, Huntington Rovers and Osbaldwick FC.”
What is your favourite position to play?
“My favourite position to play is in the midfield, as I prefer to play in the centre of the park, but I can play further forward in the no.10 role if needed”
What is your favourite moment in football so far?
” I’ve had numerous favourite moments in football from gaining back-to-back promotions to winning county cups. However, I think my favourite moment in football so far was representing York City FC at junior level until the age of 15.”
Do you support a team?
” I support Aston Villa……. unfortunately!”
What made you want to sign for Selby Town?
“I decided to join Selby Town because I believe that Christian and Jonny have built a squad here that is capable of going on to win things and continue to push for promotion. They have done a fantastic job this season and that is credit to the staff and players, so when they came and asked me to help the club push on into the play-offs then it was a no brainer. We have a massive run in of games and I hope I can help the team produce the results that will help elevate us into the play-offs.”
Anything else about yourself that will help supporters learn a bit more about you?
“I am from York and I would best describe myself as a relaxed character who enjoys socialising and having fun. Sporting wise I am very much the opposite where I am incredibly competitive and do not hide the fact that I must win. Recently I have just graduated with a sports degree from York St John University and now work there as a sports marketing intern. I must admit that I love to play Football Manager in my time at home when I have nothing else to do. Other things I do are play cricket to a high standard, playing for Woodhouse Grange CC who compete in the North Yorkshire Premiership which is a tier under County Championship 2XI cricket.”
Thanks Chris, look forward to watching you develop!
